Reece Pottorff is an Emmy Award winning filmmaker from Maui. He started making movies in his backyard. Before long that was paying work, first video for businesses around the island, then a run of shoots documenting U.S. Poet Laureate W.S. Merwin. CalArts came after that.
Since then he's worked with Skydance, NFL Films, and HBO, and on projects with SZA, Childish Gambino, and Gordon Ramsay. When the fires hit Maui in 2023, he stayed and filmed them daily for ABC News.
He still shoots across Hawaiʻi, and is currently exploring what generative AI opens up for independent filmmakers.
